Transformers was am audio-visual assault on the senses. Normally I could go for that in a $20+ IMAX seat, but the film was also an assault on the intellect. The special effects quickly grew tiresome, I couldn't be bothered what characters did or even, for that matter, what they were called. It was a dreadfully scripted, self-couscous, over-wrought mess in dire need of editing. The actors were given little to work with and yet still managed to screw it up. Michael Bay's directing is phenomenally atrocious. Or, to interpret it another way: Michael Bay Finally Made An Art Movie
That's an awesome review. Reminds how the director of Tomb Raider declared he wanted to make the world's first post-story film. When they saw the result they sacked him and hired some editors to salvage the film. I've gotta admit, I'd love to see a director's cut just to see what it's like.
